I like to travel. So I chose travel as my topic. In this issue, I will write about Japanese izakaya (Japanese style pubs).
Type and Age-group
Some stores are expensive, some are cheap. In addition, there are privately owned stores and national chains.Many young people and students frequent the inexpensive stores.There are men and women of all ages in standing taverns and popular bars. My impression is that many are locals.
otoshi お通し
Izakaya have “otoshi”. In many taverns it exists. Prices also vary from store to store. It is a finger food. In some Izakayas, you may be able to get a refill. Enjoy each Izakaya’s “otoshi”.
Chain Izakaya
I will introduce you to my recommended chain izakaya. Each store has its own characteristics. Their respective websites will also be posted. However, there was only one English-language site (only one izakaya called “Sekai no Yamachan”).
The others were in Japanese.
Tori Kizoku (鳥貴族)
This Izakaya is famous for its yakitori. There are many things you can eat for 360 yen. (Assuming $1 = 150 yen,360yen=＄2.4) It is a Izakaya where we can eat very inexpensively. This Izakaya serves both rice and dessert.
Isomaru Suisan (磯丸水産)
This Izakaya where you can enjoy seafood dishes. A unique feature of this restaurant is that you grill your own seafood. This restaurant is open 24 hours a day. So we can go there for lunch.
Kushikatsu Tanaka(串カツ田中)
This restaurant serves kushikatsu. Kushikatsu is a specialty of Osaka. Its taste can be enjoyed anywhere in Japan. You can also enjoy Osaka specialties other than kushikatsu.
Ikkenme Sakaba(一軒め酒場)
This store is by far the cheapest. The cheapest liquor is about 200 yen. The cheapest food is about 100 yen. Cheap but tasty. But they do not serve fish dishes here.
Sekaino Yamachan(世界の山ちゃん)
This Izakaya has a limited number of locations. It is not located all over Japan. There are also these stores in Taiwan, Thailand, and Hong Kong. This izakaya serves chicken wings. Tebasaki is a specialty of Nagoya. This website was available in English and Japanese.
